The first day of kindergarten can be a big mixture of different feelings. It is both an exciting and daunting process, (and that’s just the Mums and Dads!) The first day of kindergarten was spent getting to know some new friends, teachers, finding our way around the different areas of the room and exploring our lovely big yard. The children were pretty quick to show us their happy, bright and wonderful personalities and we are all looking forward to seeing more of this! Some of us have known peers from the Kangaroos and Koalas, and some are starting afresh! We have already begun learning a new song (“Little Peter Rabbit”) and the teachers have spotted a few talented singers in the group! AELC’s got talent!
Smaller groups during orientation week allows for the children to build bonds with their peers without the hustle and bustle that is 4 year old kindergarten. It is wonderful for the teachers too! We very much enjoy getting to know the children on a more one to one basis and to gauge their interests and strengths. We are constantly taking mental notes for the future! Settling children into the transitions and routines of the day has been running quite smoothly.
