Up next in our exploration of animals of the Australian Outback, is the ever strange looking and wonderful Emu. The Possums were introduced to the Emu through Indigenous Dreaming Story “Dinewan the Emu”. This story gave us the belief of the Aboriginal people as to why Emu’s can not fly, essentially a story of trickery and greed and the resulting consequences.
Did you know?
The Australian animals are now making their way up around our room - once again we are blown away by the wonderful perspectives and creativity of our Possums.
And of course, we couldn’t go past learning about Emu’s without enjoying this little diddy thanks to John Williamson
Old Man Emu by John Williamson
Let me tell you of an interview with an Old Man Emu
He's got a beak and feathers and things
But the poor old fella ain't got no wings
Aren't you jealous of the wedge-tailed eagle
While the eagle's flyin' round and round I keep my two feet firmly on the ground
Now I can't fly but I'm tellin' you, I can run the pants off a kangaroo
