How could we study birds without a look into our iconic Australian bird - The Kookaburra!
The Kookaburra is famous for its lovely long bird call, after which, the bird is named for. A loud laugh-like call, which is telling the other birds in the area to stay back! It is the biggest of all the Kingfisher birds and likes to live in harmony with other members of its family. The Kookaburra, if kept alone or away from it’s family, will not use the bird call. (Which is very sad!) The Kookaburra love to eat insects, frogs, lizards, snakes and even small mice! We used YouTube to hear the way a Kookaburra calls and to see the Kookaburra in flight in the Australian bush. The Kookaburra has a very distinct big beak and lovely colouring of blue feathers which stand out beautifully against the brown, white and grey. You can see the Kookaburra is very well represented on our wall of birds!
