Last term, As Samrudh was searching through our small of wooden flag tiles, he discovered India was not one of the countries represented in the set - after all there are approximately 196 countries in the world today! Sam decided to make his own, an experience which we later shared and celebrated with the group. The teachers were quite proud of Sam’s initiative and handy work! We thought it only fair that all children be given the opportunity to use their art and craft expertise to create a flag of their own. Much thought was put into each flag - using our handy flag reference book the children needed to think about the colours, shapes, and symbols shown in their flag of choice. Many children chose flags of their home country or the home country of their parents. Some children chose flags which represent that of their friends and even a Grand Prix flag, AND a Sydney Swans flag made it into the mix! (You’ll be happy to know, it was quickly banished out of sight, some of us are still reeling from recent losses)
We are very proud of our diverse range of flags which we are displaying in our classroom above the lockers!
