On this “warbling” Wednesday, Michael, (Alex’s Dad) generously brought in a variety of his drums and percussion instruments for the children to experiment with. A many great beat could be heard (probably far and wide) on this morning! Michael and the teachers enjoyed seeing some talented and enthusiastic percussionists emerge. Michael then held a musical session for our Possums. He introduced various beats to the children who were asked to replicate the rhythm. Even the classic “cha cha cha” was involved- “1,2, 1,2,3. 1,2, 1,2,3”.
The children were then put in height order to practice marching to the beat of Michael’s drum - 1,2,3. 1,2,3. We used a rope to aid us in following and keeping to the marching orders. A marching band fit for any army!
We finished with a “antiphony” style chant. This involves splitting the class into two groups and alternating in singing lines of the song. The chant used was “From little things, big things grow”.
We thoroughly enjoyed the addition of Michael to our session and we are hoping to build on these ideas in the future with Michael. Thanks again Michael!
