Though we only had one kinder session this week due to the Labour Day holiday, we still managed to pack a lot into that day. Karen is still absent due to her son being ill and so we had two assistants today from Group A (4 year old group), Margot and Lisa.
It is fantastic to observe the children’s naturally growing interest in each other and a desire to assist when another child is feeling unhappy. This is something which we will discuss further in future kinder sessions, in order to help all of the children to feel more comfortable within the room. I am very pleased to observe this occurring naturally, however, and will ensure that this is nurtured. Today we engaged in a large group activity outside, building a sandcastle with Margot. This activity required the children to draw on their developing cooperation skills to help each other and work together to build the sandcastle. In addition to these social skills, the children worked on their gross motor development, an aspect of their development which will be strengthened through outside play. Karen will be returning next term, so until then we will have Tracey and Fiona assisting in the room. Jess Comments are closed.
