This has been a very busy week! Monday was a day of experiments and group activities, while Thursday we had our photos. Meanwhile, the weather has been wild this week!
This fortnight we are continuing our focus on the weather. This seems poignant considering how it has been one of Melbourne’s coldest winters this year. It is fantastic to see the children wearing beanies and coats outside, though I would suggest gloves and scarves on particularly cold days too. We will continue to play outside during the cold weather as children need to have time to stretch their legs, use gross motor skills and interact with others. Keep in mind, that there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.
In our investigation of weather, we have been looking closely at hail and snow this week. Karen helped us to make snow, combining cornflour, oil and glitter to create a beautiful soft powder. Then she also made snow playdough with the children. Both of these have encouraged much discussion of snow and snow activities along with the creation of snowmen. We also had a parent helper on Monday who assisted the children to create their own magic potions. They added their own special ingredients along with food dye, bicarb soda, vinegar and dishwashing liquid to create their potions. The children got very excited when it rose as the bicarb soda, dishwashing liquid and vinegar reacted. I very much appreciate Emily’s assistance and encourage other parents when they are on fruit duty to bring an activity idea long with them.
As you would all be aware, we had a visit from Max the photographer on Thursday. The children got very excited to have Max there and once they got used to him taking photographs of them, they were laughing at his jokes and smiling easily for the camera. The photos should be fantastic of all of them.
