This week we focussed on planting our vegetables and preparing for Mother’s Day. Both of these kept the children very busy.
Monday was a glorious day for weather and fortunately, for us to plant our vegetables. The children were very enthusiastic and many volunteered to assist planting them. First they had to dig a hole and then put the seedling in the hole, then cover the roots with soil and finally water the plants. We have planted broad beans, peas, carrots, and beetroot and will start a herb garden. This vegie patch will serve as our kitchen garden and we will base many of our future cooking experiences around the vegetables growing in there. We discussed the life cycle of the plant briefly, with the children noting that they needed dirt, water and sun to grow. This topic will be extended throughout the remainder of the year, with a greater focus on the production of our own food, sustainability and healthy eating.
As we are celebrating Mother’s Day on Monday, we have had to prepare for the day this week. The children have been very busy making the mothers’ presents and cards. We have discussed that the presents are a special surprise, so hopefully we do not get too excited and reveal everything! There will also be a portion of the session in which the children will be performing for their mothers. The children have chosen what songs they wish to sing and we have practised singing these songs together. The children are so excited to have their mothers come to kinder for the special afternoon tea. We look forward to seeing you then!
