This week we began with a cooking activity. We made Ants on a Log. These are sticks of celery, cream cheese and sultanas on top. This recipe requires the children to spread the cream cheese onto the celery which requires fine motor skills. This proved difficult in some cases for the children but most were successful in the end. As we had been talking about insects a lot during the session, we did a group time activity where we pretended to be caterpillars. This activity is good for stretching their bodies, imagining that they are insects and also understanding the life cycle of a caterpillar. The children each described the colour of their wings and we flapped them up and down.
The children have been engaging in more groups games when outside. These have largely involved imaginative play and we are very pleased to see the children play so well together. As of next week, the children will be starting the sessions outside first. This will give them a chance to run off their energy before coming inside to play more quietly. Additionally, we hope to introduce a few more structured outside games for the children to play.
Finally, we worked on our Mother’s Day invitations for our mother’s or a special female family member or friend. We have spoken about what songs we will sing and how the afternoon will be lots of fun for us. The children are very excited about it!
