Week beginning 4th August 2014
Throughout the week the Koala children have been very busy both indoors and outdoors. We have had some children having a great time in the digging area outside. The children were busily working together to make a “road and a city” I was told. Please feel free to bring your children’s gumboots for this area if you have any. Outdoors we have had other children making medicines and potions out of materials they find in the garden, weeds and leaves etc.
The children have also been continuing to build their gross motor skills on the climbing equipment and, are requiring less assistance as the year progresses. There have been a few children constructing their own obstacle coarse and enjoying this with their peers.
This week we set up the easel painting outdoors as the weather was so lovely on Monday and Thursday. The children have been exploring the fluorescent colours this term. On Thursday we have began to do our self-portrait for the tea towels, and the children have done some wonderful drawings. We were very proud of them all!
Our whole body tracings are coming together nicely and we look forward to doing some collage on them this week. The children will have the opportunity to practice their cutting skills as we cut out different material for this experience.
The children in the Koala group have also taken an interest in bones this week. So we have been discussing what role the skeleton plays on our body and where all our bones are in our body. We have also looked at how we can keep our bones strong and healthy. We will continue this topic next week as we continue to look at “a healthy me”.
This week we will also be continuing to look at how we can look after our environment and our special environmental helpers will begin on Thursday.
I hope you all enjoyed your weekend!
