What a lovely week our Koala group has had! We began our session outside on Monday and we began our planting experience. Each child had a turn at putting the gardening gloves on and filling their pot up with soil. We talked about the special nutrients that are inside the soil that will help our plant to grow into a beautiful sunflower. Each session the children will be responsible for watering their own plant. Hopefully we should start to see some growth by the end of next week.
This week we celebrated reconciliation week and during our group time discussions we talked a bit about the Aboriginal culture and how they did their beautiful artwork. The children then took part in some handprints using vibrant coloured power paint, which mimicked the handprints the aboriginal people did on the cave walls. They would also create unique rock paintings alongside their blown handprints to document their life.
During our Thursday group time session we continued discussions on healthy eating and also about what a plant needs to help it grow and the importance of soil, and what is soil made of. We have also constructed our own koala group rules. The children helped me to think of some of the important things we need to remember at kinder. Some of them are;
Being kind to our friends.
Being gentle with our friends.
Using quiet voices when we are indoors.
And we all need to remember to help pack away.
The children were really enjoying being involved in constructing our rules, and they also liked to help our friends that forgot, what the right thing to do is.
On Monday the koala group will be taking part in another cooking experience, which will involve the children making healthy pizzas. The children will have a chance to choose from a range of healthy topping. Thank you to the two Mums who have volunteered with this experience, it should be lots of fun!
On Thursday we were finally able to have a hold of our beautiful rabbits. The children really enjoyed having a cuddle, and were very gentle and quiet with our baby rabbits.
On Thursday we celebrated Karen’s birthday. Karen told us she was turning 3 so we put 3 candles on our kinder birthday cake and sang the birthday song to her. Karen bought in some yummy cupcakes for us all to share. Happy Birthday Karen!
Have a lovely weekend,
Fiona and Karen
