The koala group has been having many discussions about healthy eating this week. On Thursday the children took part in a whole group experience of sorting our healthy food and our sometimes foods into groups. We have been discussing the importance of eating healthy food and how this helps our bodies to grow. We have also discussed that it is needed for energy so that we can run and jump and play. The children really enjoyed this activity and were helping each other decide where the food belonged…sometimes food or healthy choice.
For our art experience this week we have been creating a self-portrait. The children were given a paper plate and asked to create themselves, using wool, googly eyes, pipe cleaners and texters. We talked about how many eyes we have and what other features are on our face.
We have begun our family tree and the children have been enjoying discussing who is in their family and how everyone’s family is unique and special. The family tree will be displayed each session for the children to have a look at.
The Koala’s have been enjoying dancing this week and on Monday we decided to introduce some musical instruments, which they had lots of fun exploring different sounds and beats. Very noisy but lots of fun!
Games have continued to be a focus this week. On Monday some children took part in a memory game, which was a great way to have the children really concentrate and focus. We are still working on turn taking, which can be challenging for most of the children at this age.
Outdoors the children have been practicing their gross motor skills on the climbing equipment. This exercise helps to build their coordination and strength and because it was so popular this week, we were again practicing our turn taking skills.
Our planting experience will be starting on Monday as all the children have completed decorating their pots. They all look fantastic! We will be planting sunflower seeds, as they are quite fast growing and the children will be able to see results in two weeks. Hopefully!
Take care and enjoy your weekend,
Fiona and Karen
