Week beginning 18th August 2014
The koala group began the week with their first cooking experience for the term. The children were very busy making the sausage rolls and all had a go of adding all the different ingredients and counting how much we needed of everything. The children all had a go of tasting at the end of the session and we had lots of children coming back for seconds. We believe cooking assists children in reaching important milestones, such as healthy eating habits, self esteem, fine and gross motor, as well as building cognitive and vocabulary skills, while having fun!
On Monday the children continued to practice their cutting and pasting skills and are becoming increasingly more confident with this skill. The children have also continued to paint the whole body tracing and we will be sending them home at the end of this week. The children are very proud of what they have done. On Thursday the easels were set with roller paining. There were lots of bright colours and the children really enjoyed the experience.
The koala children have also been busy making their special gift and card for Dad for father’s day, and are very much looking forward to their special person coming in for part of the session.
During our group time experience we have been continuing to follow the children’s interests of bones. The children all worked together on our large foam skeleton puzzle. The children had to really use their cognitive skills and work in a team to try and solve the puzzle. Lots of fun!
The children in the Koala group had the opportunity to hold the beautiful little chicks we have had visit us as part the hatching egg program. We had lots of discussions about how they hatch, and how we take care of them. We talked about being very gentle and quiet while the chicks were visiting us.
On Monday 25th August we will be having farmer Sue come to our kindergarten, and show us some of her farm animals. She will be showing children how to look after different animals, and the children will have the opportunity to feed the animals and pat them if they wish.
We are looking forward to another great week next week!
