Week beginning 14th July
Welcome back everyone! It was so nice to see all the children very keen to be back at kinder! On Thursday we had 4 new children starting in the Koala group. Welcome Samaira, TJ, Bonnie and Pietro.
This term we have introduced the topic “Transport” as a few children travelled during the holidays and there was a lot of interest in transport towards the end of last term. We will be setting up a few experiences involving different forms of transport and we will be discussing transport during some of our mat time discussions also. In home corner we have set-up a plane, which was very popular on Thursday. WE had pilots and passengers and plenty of airhostesses.
This term we will also be introducing recycling. We will be talking about different ways we can recycle and be involving in some hands on experiences to build understanding of this topic. The koala children will also have the opportunity to be a “special helper” during the term. There will be a water helper (making sure we don’t leave taps on after we wash our hands), an electricity helper (making sure we don’t leave lights on when we go outside to play) and also a compost helper (taking out our scraps from snack time to the compost bin). This experience gives children some independence and responsibility, which will build self-esteem and sense of identity.
On Thursday the children were involved in box constructions. There were some wonderful masterpieces in the making during the session. This gave the koala children the opportunity to practice using tape and glue and working with different materials, which will build their fine motor skills and independence skills.
This term there will be some more cooking experiences as we continue to look at “a healthy me”. We will also be discussing how to look after our teeth; how to brush properly and how often we should brush our teeth.
Karen and I are looking forward to another great term; it’s hard to believe we are half way through the year already!
We hope you all enjoy your weekend.
