With all of our preparations for Father’s Day, the Trivia Night Auction artwork and our planned learning experiences, we have had a very busy week.
We began Monday with a cooking experience, healthy sandwiches. This cooking experience required the children to choose their own vegetable fillings, along with optional cheese, ham and chicken. This experience allows the children to take responsibility for their own choices which is more likely to lead to the children eating their sandwiches. As the children finish kinder at 4pm on Monday we chose to wrap up the sandwiches for the children to take home. This does, however, lead well into further discussion about healthy eating. This week we were donated a bag of fruit and water by Coles in Malvern. Coles also provided pictures of fruit and vegetables which prompted discussion of what constitutes healthy food. Though the children knew that fruit and vegetables were healthy, the discussions soon turned to talk about chocolate and sometimes foods. The cooking experiences provide opportunities for further examination of healthy foods along with a greater understanding of how meals are made.
For the Trivia Night Auction each kinder group provides a picture for parents and families to bid on. This artwork is created by the children and provides an opportunity for group artwork which is a great way for the children to express themselves as a cohort. This artwork is a very special piece which gives the winner a unique picture to remember the kinder group.
In preparation for Father’s Day, the children have been making their presents, cards and baking for the afternoon. This afternoon gives the children’s fathers a good opportunity to see the kinder with their children. The children are very excited about their special guests coming on Monday afternoon.
