Welcome back to kinder Koala families! We hope you enjoyed the term holidays. This was a short week at kinder as Monday was a student free day where all of the educators update any first aid, set up the rooms and plan for the term together. I want to thank Fiona and Karen for covering for me again on Thursday. They have passed on what the children did this week.
We welcome two new children to our Koala group along with two old faces returned from overseas. This bumps our numbers up again and is wonderful to have more children in the group. Fiona told me that the children all slotted in well and were playing like they had always been here.
The children engaged in the volcano experiment with Fiona. This time, however, it was an ice volcano which allowed for the whole structure to fizz when vinegar was added. This experiment is a lot fun during warmer months as well as being a fantastic way to see the chemical reaction which takes place between the bicarbonate soda and the vinegar. The children discussed what a normal volcano would do first before adding the vinegar to the ice volcano and witnessing the reaction.
Inside the children are engaging in box construction. This is open ended at the moment which allows the children to be truly creative, using their imagination to create anything out of boxes. We ask the children to use glue instead of tape which can cause some holding problems, though it encourages perseverance in the children. We will continue with construction in the coming weeks.
