On Monday it was a rather warm day so we only stayed outdoors in the shaded areas for a short time as we came indoors earlier than usual and we participated in discussions about the letters of the alphabet. The letters were held up for the children to see if they were able to recognise the letter that their name starts with. Many children were also able to let us know other things/animals that the letters start with such as table, dog, zebra and several more. In the hospital the doctors have been busy taking care of babies who have come in with sore tummies or broken bones. They listened to hearts beating, gave medicine and needles and wrapped bandages on their limbs then put them in bed so they could rest and get better. There could be some future doctors in this group!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Several children are really enjoying the drawing table at the moment. They are using a combination of thin/thick texts and pencils. Of course it creates some lovely artwork. Skills and techniques are developing each day.
On Thursday outdoors there were children in the sandpit building their understanding and co-ordination about using the red diggers. It is certainly tricky to get the filling and tipping and moving all happening in sequence. Congratulations on your success in achieving this!!!!!!!!!!!!! Over in the vegetable garden the four year old groups have planted flowers so the children in this group decided to water them seeing it has been warm. As you know we are always eager to care for things in nature. When inside on the mat we spoke about what flowers and other plants require to grow and survive. The children were able to let me know that plants need water, sun and dirt to keep growing. They could also tell me that people need food and water and “exercise like running and swimming and riding your bike to keep living.” We examined the food pyramid chart and the children let us know what their favourite foods are such as Watermelon, bread, pasta, peaches, grapes, bananas, broccoli, strawberries and pancakes with bananas.
Hopefully we will see many of you on Sunday at our Family Fun Day
