Even though it was an overcast day we did spend most of the session outdoors. Some of the children have been practicing their climbing skills on the bar that is on the verandah. Has your child shown you how skilful they are on this equipment? Please ask them to show you. While some were playing hide and seek there were other children in the sandpit, working together to create, roads, hills and putting in pipes for “the water to go down” In the shelter down near the big tree “mums and dads” cared for a baby. There was lots of discussion of how to care for this “two month old baby” “She likes lots of kisses and cuddles” and to “drink milk” When we did go indoors there was talk about the scarecrow and how he will be in the vegetable garden next time they come to Kindergarten and he will have a name. “Farmyard hullabaloo” was the story chosen and is a great link to our developing awareness of a sustainable environment.
Turn taking and encouraging each other when climbing up, over and down an aframe and then across a board was challenging for some but lots of fun for all who participated. Each child’s skills are building every time they climb on the equipment but most important their confidence is growing and growing. The wheelbarrows and lawnmowers were well used around the yard. Many things were transported in the barrows including sand and tanbark and even bats and balls. At pack away time there were several helpers who were keen to sweep the sand back into the sandpit. Indoors Karen and the children squeezed oranges to make juice. Many said it was delicious and drank it all while others only drank a little. Mind you, several children squeezed more oranges so they could drink more juice. Thank you so much Karen. Prior to reading “Fish don’t play ball” which was chosen by Joshua, Conor noticed a green box on the shelf and asked, “What’s in the green box?” The box was opened and inside were signs and pictures about the weather, the days of the week and the month. We spoke about today being Thursday, the weather being windy, cold and cloudy and the month being June. We will continue look at this further. We hope you all have a happy long weekend. See you Thursday.
