Maurizio from Kick a Football joined the Possum Group for the morning to engage in all things Soccer, Italian Style.
To begin, Maurizio encouraged the children to discuss their own knowledge about soccer and how it may be different to other sports. Some children, naturally, had a lot of knowledge to pass on. One key difference we picked up is that of soccer being a strictly no hands on the ball sport! The children then began practicing their foot passing skills in pairs, followed by a stint of solo goal kicking practice - Victory cheer ala Ronaldo was a big part of this! The children then worked through their own soccer match in two teams. There was plenty of“Messi-ing”around. Goal defenders in particular seemed to enjoy themselves thouroughly! We were pleased to see the way our Possums cheered each other on and celebrated the victory of others! (The classic fient you may have commonly seen before in a game of soccer was thankfully absent on this occasion)
Many thanks to the Grants Committee for organising this incursion and Maurizio for sharing his love of soccer with us!
