On the last Tuesday of Term 1, the Kangaroos sat outside under the tree for our group time. We each had a hand held up to sing ‘5 cheeky monkeys’, a favourite kinder song, when one of the cranes at Toorak Park started to move. One of the children pointed it out and the other children excitedly craned their heads to see it move. This prompted a discussion on what the cranes were doing. Some of the children suggested that they were building a house. Jess asked if there was a way we could find out exactly what the cranes were building. The children provided suggestions such as walking over and asking the builders, calling them on the phone and calling out over the fence. After a bit of prompting from Jess, we decided to write a letter to the builders work site. As it was just before the kinder holidays, Jess said she would take it to the work site. Thus far we have not heard anything, though the children have retained their interest in the works through play both inside and outside.
