This week was a short one due to the Monday public holiday. We have also been having smaller groups with a few children away or unwell. This has, however, encouraged some children to play with different friends for the session which is always lovely to see.
This fortnight we will be focussing on helping each other and working together as a team. The children do enjoy to work together on larger group activities and playing in groups more outside. However, inevitably, conflict will arise and the children are learning about cooperation and compromise. The children are also learning how to speak to each other in conflict does occur. It was fantastic to see some of the children demonstrate great understanding of the differences in others and forgiving mistakes. We have looked at how different animals assist each other and the children seemed to connect with these photos. There are also more games set up in the room which require the children to work together and to take turns.
Sensory play is essential for young children as it can be calming as well as fun to engage in. This week we made our won slime. The slime was a combination of cornflour and water, with a bit of food dye. The children marvelled at how the mix was sometimes hard to move and sometimes flowed like liquid. It’s pretty incredible!
