3 Year Old Kangaroo Group Blog 23/5/2014
What a very busy week we have had. It started outside on Monday with many of the children not only running and climbing but also walking on the yellow stilts.................this takes concentration and co-ordination. How clever they are. From conversations about healthy eating, growing vegetables and fruit and the different ways of eating good food, Karen provided the children with the opportunity to squeeze juice from oranges. They talked about the smell, what can be done with the juice as well as the orange. Lots of knowledge and understanding was exchanged during this experience. We also spoke about what each child has growing in their garden and what we have growing in Kinder’s garden and how it can be used. Can you please provide us with a list of what you grow in your garden and hopefully a photo........?
On Tuesday some of the children worked with Fiona and threaded leaves and beads onto string as well as talking about autumn and the many leaves and colours that happen at this time of the year. They are hanging up, please look for your child’s creation. This will continue next week as well.
On Friday the children made Silverbeet and cheese scones which were absolutely delicious.....Congratulations. The silverbeet was taken from our veggie garden of course and discussions were about what grows in gardens and how the different food can be harvested and then cooked and then eaten. There was some discussion about being sustainable and caring for our environment and not having to always buy food from the shops. Our conversation continued later in the session about everyday food and sometimes food. A poster has been created about what food goes under each heading. The children were generally able to inform us where each picture should go. This will also continue next week along with looking at photos of the children as babies and their families.........if you have not brought in photos please do so as it is very important for your child to also contribute to the group so they feel like they belong.
Have a great weekend everyone
