Indoors is how we started the week. Several children were rather keen to continue their interest in playing games such as “Snail Race” and “Penguin” They were able to organise who was playing and where they were to sit and then they got out the equipment that they were required to use and set them up accordingly. Turn taking, co0operation and following rules are developing. Lots of designing artwork at the easels was occurring both individually and as pairs. Next week the children will start making wrapping paper for special gifts. In the block area there was lots of communication happening concerning the train tracks and what trains were going to be used.
On Tuesday outdoors there was lots of water added to the different experiences that many children were involved with in the sandpit as well as adding water to the red tins and the children painted in so many places. When we were inside we looked at the skin/shell of the cicada that was brought in from a child’s backyard. It was placed in our looking circle. We spoke about skin and how some animals/insects grow out of their skin in comparison to us as our skin grows with us..........It was discovered that all the silkworms are now in cocoons and there is only one moth so far...........
Friday saw a live cicada brought in. Of course there was a lot of discussion about the differences between the skin and the live cicadas, the colour and of course the size. Nearly all of the children allowed the cicada to walk on their leg. Some children watched it move for some time. Nature is amazing........
