On Monday the children had their dads come to spend time with them at Kindergarten. The children showed them what they like to do, such as paint, build with the blocks, fly on the plane and show them our stick insects. Some of the children even went outdoors to show their dad how they climb or where they dig in the sandpit or dirt area under the big tree. There were some yummy snacks that the children and the dads enjoyed eating. Thank you so much for the delicious treats. We all sat on the mat including the dads and some of the children chose songs for everyone to sing. After singing each child gave their dad a gift and wished them a Happy Father’s Day. Thank you dads for spending time with your child here and we hope your loved their gift to you.
On Tuesday there was lots of interest in the area under the big tree and in the sandpit. Several children worked together filling up saucepans with sand and water to create “cakes” which they cooked and then decorated. There were a few children working in the dirt area gathering the dirt in their hands and then dropping the handful into a bucket of water. They spoke about the colour of the water, how much water is needed to make mud and how does the dirt feel before water and after it is wet. Spoons and at times spades were also used. Of course some of the children involved were rather dirty/muddy. So much fun and experimentation happening. Great to see.
Friday saw some of the children picking and eating chives from the vegetable garden. They picked the broccoli that was growing and it was steamed and was then eaten for afternoon tea by some of the children. There was none left. We spoke about what type and colour bins we have at home and what is put into them. Please let us know what you are doing at home in relation to being sustainable and caring for the environment.
What a great week we have had.
