We do hope that you all enjoyed the Queen’s Birthday long weekend with your family.
On Tuesday and Friday it might have been cold and cloudy but that did not stop the children from wanting to swing and run and even climb up over and down some equipment and many were able to walk along boards and manoeuvre under rails. The running is not just running it also involves communication with others about joining in, which way to run and where they are positioned when they run. They certainly enjoy participating as they laugh while running and after they have finished. Inside, the children make their own choices about what experiences they want to do after we have been on the mat discussing letters and names.(which is our big interest at the moment) Home corner, block building and drawing continue to be amongst the favourite experiences. With the addition of the Australian animal pictures on the wall in the story area interest continues to grow for the animals. A new experience that has been added this week, involves making decisions about what picture to trace and what colour paper to trace on to. Once the picture has been traced the child then cuts around the lines they have drawn. Scissors skills are being practiced as well. Once each child has done this task they will then decorate their cut picture which will be displayed. To help build an understanding of time I have started playing a particular song during pack away time. We are encouraging everyone to assist each other and then to be on the mat ready to thank the family on fruit duty. Packing away is not only important to keep things tidy but it also encourages co-operation, team work and respect for equipment and their environment. Have a great weekend everyone.
