On Monday afternoon we were lucky enough to have a visit from Fairlie from Drama Toolbox to assist us to inhabit the dark and dirty world of minibeasts. Minibeasts have been a key theme this year for the Koala group and it was wonderful to see a lot of their learning coming together in this experience. The children brainstormed different minibeasts they find in their gardens at home and discovered that Fairlie had costumes for many of them. We got into the buggy mood by looking at insect pictures before becoming the minibeasts we had previously discussed through costume. The costumes allowed the children to imagine how a butterfly would fly or how a ladybird plays dead when a bird flies past. We even had Jess pretending to hop like a grasshopper – what a workout! The session ended with the children playing a trick on Jess and Helen by putting their knees in the air to show that they were listening, just like grasshoppers who have their ear on their knees!
