GROUP A REFLECTIONS – WEEK 7TH – 10TH OCTOBER 2014.
It was great to open the door on the first day of Term 4 to such happy faces and such enthusiasm to be back at Kindergarten after the holiday break.
We started outside this week, and much use was made of the large outdoor blocks , which inspire great building, great co-operation and sharing of ideas, and much imaginative play, often involving many children all working together. Over the year the children have been developing the skills of being part of a group and working together, great life skills.
Inside we have set up a shop which has been a very busy place, the children needed to work out between themselves how to take it in turns to be the shopkeeper, and who were going to be the customers, taking the goods they had purchased into the home area next door, then work out how to restock the shop , so it could happen all over again so lots of children could have a turn. They managed to do this with very little support from us.
Many children have been using the clay, which is a different medium for them to use and explore, messy but fun!
We continue to observe the Silkworms and how much they have grown since they hatched at the end of last Term. We re-read the Reference Book to remind us of their life cycle. They will grow very quickly, the children are very interested and check them daily. There sole diet is Mulberry leaves, so if anyone has access to a Mulberry Tree, we would appreciate any leaves please – they do eat a lot as they get bigger.
At mat time , the children stood up in front of the group one at a time and told the other children what they had done during the holidays. They also drew a picture of what they had done to put into their folios which they will take home at the end of the year, developing the skill of being able transfer their ideas on to paper.
We have been enjoying the sunshine , but a reminder that the children need to wear hats each day when we are outside- this is part of our Sunsmart Policy and is a requirement.
What will happen next week ?
