GROUP A REFLECTIONS – WEEK 5TH – 8TH AUGUST 2014
Another busy week, even more so for the Teachers as we had our Accreditation Assessment Visit on the Tuesday . The children were unaware of this visit and continued on their busy ways, which is exactly how it should be. Hopefully the Assessor was able to gauge what a great Kindergarten environment we have .
Our new children have all settled in very well, and we plan to have a Coffee Morning shortly so the new Mums can get to know everybody – you will be given a date soon. Come along and have a chat.
We have at last completed our Hot Air Balloon, which has taken us 2 weeks to put together – every step needed to be totally completed before we moved onto the next one. Starting with blowing up the balloon (my job), then covering the balloon in a thick layer of newspaper paper mache, then when this was dry, another thick layer of white paper mache, then when that was dry, the children put on the final layer of coloured patchwork paper mache. When that was dry, we popped the balloon, ending up with a hard, hollow balloon shape. By attaching strings to this, and using part of a milk container as a basket, which we painted as well, all we needed was some cellophane flames , and then to hang it from the ceiling. It looks great. Then the children made little people to put in the basket. If you look carefully you will see they all have very happy faces. Now we can all enjoy looking at our balloon! This has been an exercise in patience and persistence for the children, needing to wait, and also realising that things don’t always happen instantly. A good life lesson in this hurried society.
Our World corner has been a place where many discussions have taken place between the children. They have been comparing the puzzle of the world with the map of the world on the wall, and the globe of the world, looking for the different countries. They have compared the flags of the world with the flags around the edge of the large map. We had dolls of different countries in National Costume to identify with the illustration sheet, we looked which countries they lived in on the map, and we had a matching game about children from different countries. Kylie has been including songs from different countries in music on Fridays. Next we plan to have parents who are able to, read a story to the children in different languages. If you have anything of interest from another country you could show us please bring it for us to see, we would appreciate your involvement.
Next week we will be making our invitations for our Fathers Day celebrations on Friday 5th September 8.00 a.m. – 9.30 a.m. this will great fun and hopefully the Dads, or some other special person in your child’s life if Dad is not able to, will be able to join us.
Next week we will be having the Living Eggs programme at Kindergarten, when we will be caring for our little chickens that have hatched.
Remember our Trivia Night on Friday 5th September - if you don’t wish to make up a table yourself, come and join a Group A table – it’s great fun!
Thank you to those Group A parents who came and helped on the Working Bee day – the Kindergarten looks great.
