GROUP A REFLECTIONS – WEEK 5TH -7TH NOVEMBER 2014.
This was a very short week, because of the Melbourne Cup Holiday, and the groups were small as many children were away.
We followed up on the Museum visit last week with lots of activities which included Dinosaurs – we had Reference Books out for discussion about what we had learnt and researching new information / we had Dinosaur models in the sandpit with logs and stones to build a habitat for them / we did Dinosaur drawings / we had tiny Dinosaurs in the playdough with pretend trees and magic stones / we had tiny models of Dinosaur skeletons set out like a Museum display with magnifying glasses and Reference books , and lots of imaginary play and lengthy discussions took place in these activities.
Our Silkworms are very busy spinning their cocoons now, we only have a few caterpillars left. The children have been very interested and have been very responsible by only touching those that are not spinning. We have discussed how they actually spin the silk and what will happen next.
We have been very busy watering our garden and our new butterfly attracting plants as the weather has been so hot.
One of the most popular areas of play has been our Office Corner, where the children have been able to experiment using an old typewriter which was totally unfamiliar to them, and we have needed to learn what a typewriter was and how they were used – they have had a lot of fun with it
The children in this group also spend a lot of time building with blocks – both in the block corner inside, and with the large hollow blocks outdoors – the structures they build are amazing and often very complicated – the children have developed an awareness of balance , size, distance and proportion to create these structures. They work together to build them, and create games around them, this involves interaction, discussion, co-operation, solving problems, using their imaginations – learning life skills.
