GROUP A REFLECTIONS – WEEK 15TH -18TH JULY 2014
It was great to see all the smiling enthusiastic faces at the door on the first day after the holidays. The children were all very pleased to see their friends again, and the Kindergarten routine was immediately back in place. We welcomed 2 friends back after being away for the whole of last term, and also welcomed a new child into our group.
As we have had children return from being overseas, and also a number of children holidaying in various parts of the world at the moment, we will be learning about the World, other countries, other languages and other cultures this term – it will be very exciting, our world is a wonderful place. We hope that our parents and maybe grandparents will be able to contribute to this knowledge. We will also be talking about caring for our environment and our world.
We set up an aeroplane in our room, with a cockpit and controls, numbered seats down a central aisle, a kitchen galley and trays for passengers to eat from. It has been a very busy corner, and we will develop it further. Many children have been on planes so are able to contribute ideas. We are discussing books about aeroplanes and airports to learn more information.
As well as dancing with Karen on Thursdays, this term we have also started music and singing with Kylie on Fridays – so we are looking forward to these experiences. These sessions are great fun and the children are developing confidence and independence, they are getting themselves ready, listening to instructions, remembering and following these instructions, being aware of their bodies in the space around them, and using their imaginations.
We checked our vegetable garden when we came back and discovered we had grown the most enormous radishes, we picked some - so far we have been busy admiring them but have not yet eaten them. This led to an impromptu discussion about what vegetables grow above the ground and what grow under the ground- the children were very interested. Our lettuce are growing well and we will soon be able to pick some. Our remaining broccoli had gone to seed – so we discussed the process of self seeding plants. We are still minding our guinea pigs so they are able to benefit from our vegetable garden as well.
What will happen next week? (we do know that the Photographer will come to take our Kindergarten photos).
