GROUP A REFLECTIONS – WEEK 12TH – 15TH AUGUST 2014.
Another busy week flown by!
At the beginning of the week we became the carers of 10 Hen eggs, which all hatched on the Wednesday - we were lucky to be able to watch some of these eggs actually hatch , an experience which the children may not be lucky enough to see again. The children were interested to observe how these tiny chickens soon became strong enough to move around , and how they actually obtained food from the lining of the egg shells from which they had just hatched, nature is a wonderful thing! The next day we transferred these little chicks from the Incubator to the Brooder , where they are kept warm and snug. They immediately began eating the food provided and are very active. We talked to the children about how we needed to take great care of these chickens as they are our responsibility . We talked about the life cycle of hens , and we will be able to learn more about them next week as we observe how they grow and develop wing and tail feathers. At the end of next week they will return to the farm unless any families would like to adopt some as their own. Please see the Teachers if you would like to do this.
We continue with our World Interest- we have added more things to our World corner- it is so interesting to see how the writing differs for all the languages we have on display, and we have a large atlas which illustrates which animals are native to which countries. We have put coloured markers on our wall map, so that we can identify which languages on our wall come from which countries by matching the colours. We will continue with this interest next week by learning how to say Hello in different languages, we are singing songs in different languages in music , and we hope to have a story read to us in different languages .Remember if you are able to contribute any items of interest from other countries, please bring them for us to learn about.
