Group A Reflection, 27th to 30th October

1/11/2015

We started this week off with a very exciting day - our Grandparents / Very Special Friends Day on Tuesday! The children had cooked some yummy slices for our visitors to share, and also made some lemonade for them to have – they worked hard squeezing the lemons by hand, and mixing all the ingredients together – the results were delicious. They had also made a special  card to say thank you for coming. It is always wonderful to see the different generations  having fun together and enjoying each other’s company – this is a very special relationship. As mentioned before, as we have such a multi cultural group this year, many of the children’s Grandparents live overseas. Thank you to everyone who came and shared this day with us, and a special thank you to the Mums and Dads who became special friends.

We continue to explore the World, with a giant Atlas which illustrates the animals that live in different Countries, and we continued to explore other languages with Scarlet’s Mum Janette reading the Little Gingerbread Man story to us in Italian – next week – Japanese – aren’t we lucky to have this opportunity. The children have enjoyed reading The Little Gingerbread Man story with each other using puppets and characters, and also reading the story of “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly” story using puppets to illustrate this story. These story telling experiences illustrate to the children different ways stories can be told, and we will continue to do this with other stories – the children are exploring words and language, and how exciting books and stories can be.

Our Silkworms continue to develop and grow, and we now have many that have spun cocoons, which is very interesting, and the children check every day. Soon all will  have spun their cocoons and we will have to wait patiently for the first moths to hatch out in a few weeks time – the next step in their life cycle. We had the silkworms out on the drawing table, and the children have been drawing these silkworms from life – they are extraordinarily detailed and  imaginative – very impressive !

What will happen next week ?
