GROUP A REFLECTION - WEEK 3RD - 6TH SEPTEMBER
The arrival of Spring has brought with it some lovely sunny days for us to enjoy - we have noticed some changes happening in our playground, and are watching the new growth appearing on our trees, also there are bugs to find and identify. We have allowed some of the broccoli in our vegetable garden to go to seed, so that we can observe and discuss the whole life cycle of the plant. We also managed to cook some more broccoli for afternoon tea last Wednesday, the children have been happily picking and eating the lettuce and parsley - straight from garden to mouth!
Our interest in languages and the World continues - with a giant World Atlas on our World table which has pictures of which animals are native to which country - this has been the focus of many conversations and interactions. Some items of interest from other countries are being brought by the children for us to see - we were lucky enough to have a beautiful Indian costume modelled for us by one of our little girls - it was covered in beautiful embroidery and little mirrors with a skirt, top and a floating scarf- so beautiful. We also have a Canadian Flag to talk about, a T-shirt from Alaska, and promises of more things to come - thank you to all tha parents who are helping us to explore these things - it is such a wonderful opportunity to learn new knowledge.
Our plane/airport area has also developed following suggestions from the children, with a Control Tower, the plane has windows with curtains ("in case it's too sunny") and a control panel made by the children. There have been many discussions about what happens at Airports and when you fly on a plane - some of our children seem very well travelled. Our friend who is travelling the world at the moment is now in Versailles, next to Italy, so we will check that on our Globe and our map.
We have been having activities which help develop the childrens fine motor skills, using scissors, folding paper, and threading tiny beads, which required skill, patience and concentration and perserverence.
We said goodbye to our Community Service students from Sacre Coeur - the girls have been a great help and have really become part of our Kindergarten - we will miss them, but we hope they will come back and visit us.
