Welcome back everyone! The beginning of Term 3 is already here and we can’t believe how quickly the year is passing. All the children seemed enthusiastic about coming back and seeing all their peers again. The room has been changed and modified to support ongoing learning and development in a wide range of areas. The puzzles are getting more challenging; children are building on independence, self control, initiative and learning to assert themselves in a socially acceptable way.
This Term we are focusing on Prehistoric Dinosaurs. Charlie had brought in a dinosaur fossil last term from the Melbourne Museum; he also shared and identified many dinosaurs using flash cards at group time. We have set up a dinosaur landscape using a large sand tray and small trees. Our favourite books have been ‘Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus’ and ‘Tinyrannosaurus and the Bigfootosaurus’ not to mention dancing to the dinosaur stomp!
Parents are often worried about whether their children can read, write, and recall shapes and numbers in preparation for formal schooling. Studies have proven, these things do not determine, dictate or measure a child’s intelligence or school ‘readiness’, early childhood education lays the foundation for children to develop a strong sense of identity, community, wellbeing, communication and learning (EYLF) our program is based on these five areas. It’s also important to let children ‘be children’ by giving them the autonomy to dictate their own play and investigation.
As the children move towards the end of their kindergarten year, the preparation of DEECD (Department of Education & Early Childhood Development) Transition Learning & Development Statements are being compiled ready for parents to see in Term 4. More information will be provided to parents about these transition reports at a later stage. If you have any questions or concerns about your child starting school please don’t hesitate to ask educators in the room.
The kindergarten is going to be having a visit from the Education Department this Term. Please bring in Birth Certificates if you haven’t done so already
