REFLECTION- EXT HRS
We are back into the kinder routine and enjoying the spring weather. This allows us to spend quality time outdoors to run, release energy and play lots of sport. The children have been practising with a skipping rope playing ‘jump over the snake’ and ‘limbo’; a fun game where we move our bodies over and under different heights set by the people holding the long rope.
The children have also been encouraged to use their senses outside by being ‘blindfolded’ and having to find their way around the footpath with a ‘helper’ or ‘guide dog’. This helped them recognise how important ‘sight’ is and to also be aware that people with disabilities can still live a normal life with the help of a special guide dog. We will also look at other senses such as taste, hearing, smell and touch through various activities.
We have just started looking at ‘space’ because many of the children have been talking about ‘comets’ during imaginative play outside. We were surprised to hear on the news that a real comet passed Mars! Our art and craft area has transformed providing lots of materials including cones, cylinders, cellophane, foils and boxes – so the children can be creative and develop their own ideas. It’s good to see the children are getting better at cutting, pasting, sticking and following a set plan/idea and following through with it; they create products which they can talk about, share and feel proud off. A large wooden space rocket has been set- up to support imaginative play- it’s set on a low table for easy access and to promote small group interaction.
With only a few months of the year to go....you might like to spend a morning or afternoon at kinder. Sit on the sofa and read some stories, play a board game, or have kick of the footy outside.....There are also a lot of fruit duty spots to fill
