On Thursday the children enjoyed squeezing lemons. They have been picked from the lemon tree outside- the children often collect them to hold and smell. We decided to make traditional lemonade with the juice which was a ‘sour’ very different from the ‘fizzy’ lemonade.
On Friday afternoon Fiona brought in her popcorn machine- we were lucky enough to enjoy it with our afternoon tea!
This week we are finishing our mother’s day preparations and will begin cooking some delicious treats. We have several new activities which includes a train, listening post with headphones and large painting with recycled materials/tools on tables. The children are creating some beautiful art pieces and take a lot of pride in their work. The marble paintings look fabulous so we have put them up on display for everyone to admire.
The pillow time has been a successful change. Every child is encouraged to have quiet time listening to audio stories and read books. It’s important we get a balance of high and low energy play especially for long day sessions. We still take full advantage of the multi- purpose room by setting up construction activities and art- they enjoy a new and different play space and this set-up really works well over the winter months.
The rooms is also used for our music and dance classes which we look forward to every week. Karen exposes the children to creative and imaginative dance through free, expressive movement her program is inclusive of all children of all abilities. She encourages the children’s imagination and creativity through moving through and around her creative props. It is a space where we see the children develop their confidence, spatial awareness by enthusiastically being involved.
Kylie is very engaging with a very dynamic voice which really engages the children to join in. We have already been exposed to a wide variety of instruments and we can sing-along with Kylie and her guitar which she brings along every session. It’s wonderful to see the children exposed to music from all over the world, learn new instruments, songs and actions.
This week we have started to look at ‘big machines’, transport and emergencies. The children did a practise fire drill where they had to follow instruction and respond to a loud whistle. The whole process was done in a light hearted way to make the children feel at ease.
A reminder that Mothers Day is this Friday between 9.00-10.00. If you can’t make it please make sure somebody special is there to collect gifts and to support your child
