What a positive start to the year! The Extended Hours group are getting to know each other, it takes time to learn faces and names and the children are catching on very quickly. The children are covering the basics by finding their lockers and putting their bags on the peg, putting their water bottles in the tray and fruit in the red bowl. They have been guided through the toilet procedure and encouraged to ask staff if they need any help. The routine has been introduced and we are conscious to make transitions smooth and stress free! Packing away and taking care of kindergarten equipment is also important, the children are learning to be respectful of others and work co-operatively in group play.
The room has been set-up in a basic, clean and simple way for the children to become used to their surroundings. The children have started painting on the large easels, drawing their first kinder pictures, home corner, sand play, cars and trains. We have begun story time which has included ‘Stanley Paste’, ‘Each Peach Pear Plum’, ‘Millie and Me’, ‘The old lady who swallowed a fly’ and our favourite ‘puff the magic dragon’.
The weather has been hot so the children have been enjoying water-play indoors and outdoors. Painting outside with water cans and brushes has kept all the children busy. Will, Guy and Aaron started running races with a baton, demonstrating a lot of physical co-ordination and team spirit when barracking!
Guy told us all about fishing and catching a flathead so we decided to get two fish pets for the room. What should we name them? We asked.....
‘Fish and Chips’ said Claudia
‘Goldy and Blacky’ said Molly
This Term we will be focusing on ‘Under the Sea’
We hope everyone had a positive start to kinder and we are looking forward to a fun-filled year together!
