We have had some very fresh mornings! That’s why the children are wearing their warmest clothing so they can still enjoy the fresh air. We believe it’s imporant for children to go out and release energy no matter the weather conditions. People think when its cold and dreary you shouldn’t go outside and play, right? Wrong! While your intentions may be a little off, it is still necessary for children to go outside and play- even in the winter months. The benifits include; building up of their immune system, provides excercise, stimulates the imagination, it promotes problem solving skills abd provides Vitamin D. It doesn’t matter if it’s summer or winter outside, your children need eveything listed above and playing outside is a great way to get them all at once! Obviously, if it’s a blizzard- like conditions outside , we would bring the children inside.
The children have been getting very ‘hands on’with small lego and making/designing some wonderful objects. We have dedicated a large area on the floor with three boxes where the children have easy access. The block area has become a ‘transport’ table with a large road mat, planes, trains, rubber runners/tubes and block shapes. This ties in with many of the children showing interest in big machines, contruction, building and cars; the children have also been referring to the olden days when these things didnt exist- they came up with all kinds of stories.
The goo we made from Luxe flakes has set and we have put it in a large round trough for the children to come back to. While its very messy and looks rather yucky- the calming effect it has on the children is remakable- like most sensory play experiences it’s theraputic and low energy. It’s a completely different texture than corn-flour and water which we found even more ooey gooey!
The recycle ‘making table’ has been implemeting once again to prompt design and construction through a variety of materials. We are encouaging children to plan, make and reflect upon their work- and try to complete tasks they begin. The children show lots of pride in their work and they are even getting staff to photocopy their works or take photos so they can remember. We are keeping a lot of the chidrens work as part of their portfolio/journal which all families get at the end of the year
The last day of Term Friday June 26th we will have a superhero/fancy dress day where the children can wear anything they like. Details will be written up in more detail closer to the date....
