We welcomed enthusiastic children back for the start of this Term - re-visiting established friendships and perhaps making new ones.
We are encouraging the childrens' confidence and independence. This week we have done some things in different ways, which has meant the children have needed to be adaptable to a change in the familiar routine of last term.
On the beautiful sunny Wednesday we decided to have lunch picnic style outside - this required the children to be able to organize themselves and their lunch sitting on a blanket rather than at a table, sitting quietly with their friends patiently till most children had finished their lunch, even though the sunny playground beckoned.
Also this week was our first Dancing session with Karen- a totally new unfamiliar experience for the children. The group was divided into two groups - so the children did not necessarily have their close friends to rely on - taking off their shoes and socks - putting them in their lockers, going to the front room for the activity - responding to a totally new Teacher unfamiliar to them - taking part in the experience - returning to the room and putting their shoes and socks back on again. All this required the children to be adaptable, confident in their own abilities, and being responsible for themselves and their own well being - they managed wonderfully - I was proud of them.
