Winter has made it’s presence felt this week, but we go outside to play regardless as fresh air is good for us. So on these chilly mornings, we have been keeping warm by doing lots of physical activities – running races and baton relays (accompanied by very loud cheering), jumping over ropes, playing ball games – football and we have new soccer nets for practicing our kicking skills, also lots of rolling down the hill (often group rolling with lots of children involved at once).
We were happy to put on our best smiles for Max the Photographer when he took our photos on Tuesday, both individual and group photos. He will return these to Kindergarten in a few weeks for you to see and order if you wish. We are looking forward to seeing the results.
On Wednesday we carried out an Emergency Drill – so that the children would know what to do if there was a real emergency. First we discussed what an emergency could be, what we need to do and how we would do it. The children contributed many ideas as to what a possible emergency could be, from a fire to a flood or someone being hurt. The children are aware of the whistles that hang around the educators necks and why we have them – now was our time to try them out! We practiced many times, while pretending to play both inside and outside. When the whistle blew – the children needed to come to Margot quickly and quietly, then we all went together down to the fence by the shed, walking not running and staying together. The children then sat down while the roll was called and we made sure that everyone was safe, then we walked quietly back to our room. The children were very interested, responsive, and responsible. We will follow this up with further discussions about emergencies, and have suggested the parents follow this up at home. We will have further emergency drills over the year.
The children are continuing to enjoy our shop, and we have had interesting discussions about which shops we buy different goods from.
The children are very enthusiastic about using the clay - maybe we have some creative geniuses of the future!
We are continuing to explore other languages – through saying Hello in other languages, singing songs in other languages, and playing games from other countries. We will be extending this – what an exciting adventure to go on!
What will happen next week ?
